Unemployment rate stays steady

Unemployment numbers in the Baltimore-Towson metropolitan area fell slightly last month, according to data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on Tuesday, and remained below the national average.

Baltimore?s unemployment rate, not seasonally adjusted, fell to 3.9 percent from 4.0 percent last month, the same level as September of 2006.

Statewide, unemployment also fell, to 3.6 percent from 3.7 percent, according to the data.

Across the nation, the unemployment rate was 4.5 percent.
