A man recorded a video of himself clinging to a U.S. plane as it took off from Kabul airport Monday.
The smiling man waved to the crowd below as the plane began to take off, the video showed. It was unclear if the man himself jumped off or if his phone dropped. The Taliban took over Kabul on Sunday, prompting a hasty U.S. retreat from the city.
Dozens attempted to hang on to the fuselage of U.S. aircraft as they evacuated the city. Two people were seen falling to their deaths from the massive C-17 Globemaster jet as it gained altitude. Seven people were reportedly killed, according to U.S. officials. Two of the seven were shot dead by U.S. troops as crowds rushed to the tarmac. The U.S. military temporarily suspended evacuations due to overcrowding and disorganization.
