British Prime Minister Theresa May told a British tabloid Tuesday President Trump was “wrong” to criticize London Mayor Sadiq Khan after recent terror attacks in the British capital.
“The relationship with America is our deepest and most important defence and security relationship,” May told The Sun. “Having said that, I think Donald Trump is wrong in what he said about Sadiq Khan, in relation to the attack on London bridge.”
“[Khan’s] been at COBRAs and we’ve been working with him to ensure the response was right, and to get London moving again,” she added, speaking about a briefing group about the terrorist attack.
May also told The Sun, “When you’re working in the aftermath of an attack like that, party politics is put to one side.”
Following the attack, Trump issued several tweets criticizing Khan’s reaction to the attack and received heat from both sides of the pond for his tweets, including from British Foreign Minister Boris Johnson.
“At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is ‘no reason to be alarmed!'” Trump tweeted, later calling Khan’s statement a “pathetic excuse.” This is despite that fact that Khan’s “there is no reason to be alarmed” statement was referring to the increased police presence in London.
Pathetic excuse by London Mayor Sadiq Khan who had to think fast on his “no reason to be alarmed” statement. MSM is working hard to sell it!

Despite May’s opinion on Trump’s critical tweets, she said Trump’s visit to Britain this fall is still scheduled to take place.
