Parkdale High student stabbed to death after leaving school

A 15-year-old boy was stabbed to death after he left Parkdale High School on Good Luck Road on Wednesday afternoon in suburban Prince George’s County.

Prince George’s County police did not release the boy’s name Wednesday night, pending notification of the family, but they said school was already out when a tan vehicle pulled up, and several young men hopped out and attacked the teen with little confrontation, police spokesman Cpl. Clinton Copeland said.

Patricia Poakwa, 16, a sophomore at Parkdale, was leaving school at the time, and as she climbed the hill leading from the parking lot to Good Luck Road, she saw students streaming toward the corner of a school parking lot exit and the road where the boy lay bleeding.

“We were scared, so we ran back to the school,” Poakwa said, adding they were soon told to go home. She said she saw several boys standing over the teen, but they scattered when an ambulance approached.

School had already been let out when police received the call for the stabbing around 2:45 p.m., Copeland said. Parents were called, were made aware of the situation and were asked to pick up their children at the far end of the parking lot, away from where the boy was stabbed.

Good Luck Road was closed for three hours while police investigated. The road was finally being reopened around 6 p.m.

Copeland said police were unsure of a motive at this time, but there may have been an altercation at some point prior to the stabbing; it does not appear there was any conflict at any point inside school grounds. Police have not ruled out the possibility the incident was gang-related, he said.
