Giant closing Gaithersburg Peapod warehouse

Giant Foods’ Peapod home delivery warehouse in Gaithersburg is relocating to Hanover, meaning Montgomery County will lose 120 jobs on its tax rolls. According to a spokeswoman, roughly 78 employees will make the move with the company.

“We were able to let employees know a few months back and everyone who wanted to relocate was able to do so,” said Peapod spokeswoman Elana Margolis.

The Peapod warehouse, where workers package food for Giant’s home delivery service, is located on Edison Park Drive in Gaithersburg and is slated to close on May 31, according to state documents. Margolis said the warehouse closure would not affect Montgomery County’s Peapod service.

She added that Peapod was working on job assistance with the remaining 40 or so employees who elected not to make the move. The employees were notified of the closure several months ago, she said.
