The Obama administration has announced it will target major metropolitan areas in Texas and Florida as part of a 15-city Obamacare marketing push during enrollment season, which begins Tuesday.
Officials said they selected the cities based on three criteria: a high number of uninsured people who are eligible for marketplace coverage, enrollment success in the past and strong opportunities for “meaningful” enrollment increases.
Of the 15 cities being targeted, three are in Texas and three are in Florida, two states with large uninsured populations who are eligible for subsidies to help lower the cost of coverage. Healthcare.gov CEO Kevin Counihan said he hopes to majorly boost enrollment in those areas through partnerships with groups already in those areas.
“We look forward to engaging Americans all across the country in open enrollment beginning Nov. 1, but we are especially excited for a major outreach push in these 15 terrific markets where we’ve seen success in the past and where the potential for enrollment growth remains high,” Counihan said.
The 15 areas include:
- Miami-Fort Lauderdale
- Orlando-Daytona-Melbourne, Fla.
- Tampa-St. Petersburg, Fla.
- Dallas-Fort Worth
- Houston
- San Antonio
- Atlanta
- Northern New Jersey
- Chicago
- Philadelphia
- Charlotte, N.C.
- Detroit
- Salt Lake City
- Phoenix
- St. Louis
