President Trump said Wednesday that Alabama’s special election proved he was right to support Luther Strange as the GOP Senate candidate, since Roy Moore couldn’t win.
“The reason I originally endorsed Luther Strange (and his numbers went up mightily), is that I said Roy Moore will not e able to win the General Election,” Trump tweeted. “I was right! Roy worked hard but the deck was stacked against him!”

Moore lost a close race to Democrat Doug Jones on Tuesday night, in a state that President Trump won by about 30 points last year. Moore tumbled from a safe lead after several women said Moore pursued them sexually while they were teenagers, and when he was in his 30s.
Trump initially backed Strange, and after Moore won the GOP nomination, the accusations came out. Trump first said it was up to Alabama voters to decide the race, but later turned and supported Moore as someone who would back his agenda.
Trump later said the election was proof the GOP must run better candidates.
“If last night’s election proved anything, it proved that we need to put up GREAT Republican candidates to increase the razor thin margins in both the House and Senate,” he said.
