Members of the Senate Armed Services Committee will waste no time investigating cyberthreats to the U.S. once they return to Washington next week.
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and chairman of the committee, will convene a hearing on Thursday morning about foreign cyberthreats to the United States.
Three witnesses are expected to testify: James Clapper, the director of national intelligence, Marcell Lettre, the undersecretary of defense for intelligence, and Adm. Michael Rogers, the head of both U.S. Cyber Command and the National Security Agency.
The hearing follows the administration’s announcement this week that it will impose sanctions on Russia for its hacking of the Democratic National Committee to try to influence the outcome of the election, as well as the release of the report linking the cyberattacks to the Russian government.
McCain has already said he intends to work in the 115th Congress to impose stronger sanctions on Russia.
