With the Democratic Convention over and the Republican Convention about to begin, the campaigns are making the most of the pivot weekend. Here’s a look at their plans:
Barack Obama
— Obama and running mate Joe Biden, with wives Michelle and Jill, embark today on a three-state bus tour that begins in Beaver, Pa., before moving on through the Keystone State, Ohio and Michigan. The tour might add a stop or two in Indiana as well. The Obama campaign calls it the “On the Road to Change” tour.
— The candidates will stop in Cleveland on Saturday for the funeral of U.S. Rep. Staphanie Tubbs-Jones, who died Aug. 20.
— Among other scheduled stops on the tour are a Sunday evening event in Battle Creek, Mich., and a Monday appearance in Detroit.
— An interview with Obama and Biden will appear on Sunday’s edition of 60 Minutes.
John McCain
— McCain ramps up for his convention with a major “victory rally” in Dayton, Ohio at 11 am today. The event will be the public introduction of his running mate.
— On Saturday, McCain and his running mate will be in Washington, Pa., for a 2 p.m. rally with former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.
— On Sunday, the new McCain ticket will be with Romney and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee in O’Fallon, Mo., outside St. Louis.
