Baylor University says Kenneth Starr still president

Baylor University says Kenneth Starr is still its president and chancellor, despite reports Tuesday that he was fired.

When asked about reports that the school’s board of regents had voted to fire Starr, university spokeswoman Lori Fogleman said Tuesday in an email to multiple news organizations: “Ken Starr is president and chancellor of Baylor University.”

Fogleman did not elaborate on the fate of the six-year president.

A separate statement from the Texas school said its governing board is still considering the results of an internal investigation into the matter.

“We will not respond to rumors, speculation or reports based on unnamed sources, but when official news is available, the university will provide it. We expect an announcement by June 3,” university spokeswoman Tonya Lewis said in a statement first obtained by Fox Sports.

A report Tuesday by HornsDigest.com alleged that the board of regents voted to fire Starr in the wake of how the school handled reports of rape and assault by football players from 2009 to 2016. Starr has been with Baylor since 2010.

Prior to joining the university, Starr was best known for being the Whitewater independent counsel whose investigation of Bill Clinton in the 1990s led to his impeachment.

In 1994, Starr took over the investigation of the Clintons’ involvement in the Whitewater real estate investments and the suicide of White House deputy counsel Vincent Foster. Starr’s investigation included a lawsuit filed against Clinton by accuser Paul Jones and Monica Lewinsky, with whom Clinton had an affair.

Presumed Republican nominee Donald Trump has used the Clinton scandals of the 1990s, including Whitewater and Foster’s suicide, in recent political attacks against Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton.

In remarks reported by the New York Times on Tuesday, Starr reportedly praised Clinton as “the most gifted politician of the baby boomer generation.”
