CARMEL, Ind. (AP) — A suburban Indianapolis school has won the middle school competition of the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl.

The department says Carmel Creekside Middle School beat Takoma Park Middle School from Silver Spring, Md., in Monday’s final.
Carmel High School was a finalist in the high school competition. All finalists in both the middle school and high school classes receive $1,000 for their school’s science department.
Some 5,000 middle school students on more than 1,000 teams participated in 46 regional competitions leading up to the finals. In the high school class, more than 9,000 students on nearly 1,900 teams competed.
