Mike Pence officially withdrew from Indiana’s governors race Friday morning, shortly after Donald Trump announced he had chosen the first-term governor to be his running mate.
Pence had previously filed for re-election, but Indiana election laws prohibit him from running for both offices simultaneously.
The deadline for Pence to withdraw and allow Indiana Republicans to pick a new candidate was 11 a.m. ET Friday morning, leading Trump to tweet his vice presidential pick minutes before the clock struck 11.
