Actress Cynthia Nixon, known for her starring role in the popular HBO show “Sex and the City,” officially announced her campaign for New York governor Monday afternoon.
“I love New York, and today I’m announcing my candidacy for governor,” Nixon tweeted, along with a link for supporters to donate to her campaign.
Nixon will challenge fellow Democrat, incumbent Gov. Andrew Cuomo, in the November election.

Nixon, who played redhead Miranda Hobbes, recently hired two veterans of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s first campaign, Rebecca Katz and Bill Hyers.
She had suggested in January that she was interested in running against Cuomo.
In August, Nixon told NBC’s “Today” show that she was most concerned with the state’s educational system, prompting some debate over whether she was gearing up to jump in the race.
