Metro officials acknowledged Thursday that a second train ran on the system with two extra cars this month, leading to the disciplining of two more workers. The admission of the 10-car train came during a safety briefing to the board of directors when agency officials were explaining a similar incident that happened on Dec. 2. The latest incident occurred on a train out of Largo on the Blue Line on Jan. 13, said Deputy General Manager Dave Kubicek. The problem was noticed after two or three stops, he said, and no riders were found on the extra cars. Longer trains are a concern because rail platforms are built to hold a maximum of eight cars, leaving the remainder hanging into the tunnel and potentially exposing passengers to the dangerous third rail when doors open. — Kytja Weir
