Trump predicts: ‘Soon’ unemployment rate for women will reach historic low

President Trump predicts the U.S. will “soon” see a historically low unemployment rate for women while touting record low numbers across other key demographics.

While boasting about Hispanic and African-American unemployment rates hitting the lowest rates in history, he turned to a trickier category: women.

“It’s the lowest. So you have African-Americans, Hispanics, women. Women. Do we love women? Women,” he said at a rally in Indiana on Thursday. “The lowest unemployment rate in 18 years. I’m sorry we didn’t make it in history but we’re catching it. It will soon happen.”

The president admitted that he’s “disappointed” with unemployment levels among women because it hasn’t reached historic levels yet. The unemployment rate for women 16 years of age and older dropped to 3.7 percent in April, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The lowest recorded unemployment level for women was 2.7 percent in May 1953.

“Can you imagine? My most disappointing stat is women. It’s the lowest unemployment rate in 18 years,” Trump said. “Because all of the others are history, I have a feeling the women will soon be history too because that’s what’s happening.”

Despite his rocky history with women’s issues and previous accusations, Trump won 41 percent of the female vote in the 2016 presidential election.
