Watch: Feds ignite a turkey to warn about safety

The federal government turned a turkey into a raging ball of fire in order to warn about the dangers of deep-frying your holiday feast.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission released a video and blog post on Wednesday warning that 1,400 cooking fires occur each year during Thanksgiving.

The CPSC added that while frying turkeys has become popular, it’s one of the more dangerous ways to prepare a feast.

“Although a fried turkey is very tasty, it’s not the safest thing to do,” the agency said. “Since 2004, CPSC is aware of 107 fire or burn incidents involving turkey fryers that have caused 47 injuries and $5.2 million in property loss.”
