VOICE-OVER SCRIPT:
A BRITISH BOY WHO CAUSED AN UPROAR AFTER BEING TAKEN BY HIS PARENTS FROM A U-K HOSPITAL WITHOUT DOCTORS’ CONSENT HAS LANDED IN PRAGUE TO GET TREATMENT FOR HIS BRAIN TUMOR.
5-YEAR-OLD ASHYA KING WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE CZECH CAPITAL ON A MEDICALLY EQUIPPED PLANE FROM MALAGA, SPAIN WHERE HE SPENT THE LAST WEEK IN A LOCAL HOSPITAL.
SOUNDBITE (Czech ) Miloslav Ludvik, Director of Faculty Hospital Motol:
“I can’t deny that the situation isn’t sort of unusual, that’s because the processes were done in a quick way.”
THE BOY’S PARENTS HAVE FOUGHT A LONG BATTLE TO GET THEIR SON TREATED WITH PROTON BEAM TECHNOLOGY – A TREATMENT NOT YET AVAILABLE FOR CHILDREN IN BRITAIN.
THEY WERE ARRESTED BY SPANISH POLICE AFTER THEY TOOK ASHYA FROM A HOSPITAL IN SOUTHAMPTON, ENGLAND AND DROVE HIM TO MALAGA.
THEY SPENT THE NIGHT IN JAIL BUT WERE RELEASED AFTER BRITISH AUTHORITIES DROPPED CHARGES AGAINST THEM.
NOW IN PRAGUE, ASHYA WILL BE EVALUATED BEFORE STARTING THE SPECIAL TREATMENT.
SOUNDBITE (Czech) Professor Dr. Jan Stary, Head of Oncology Department, Faculty Hospital Motol:
“Together with the Proton Center we must conduct necessary tests that will show the state of his disease because it has been a relatively long time, six weeks, since his operation.”
ASHYA WILL REMAIN HOSPITALIZED, BUT WILL BE SENT TO A PROTON THERAPY CENTER FOR ROUGHLY FIVE WEEKS OF TREATMENT.
