Summer DCPSin’, had me a blast…

Show up to class, stay out of trouble, produce a few fridge-worthy grades on final exams. Check, check aaand check, D.C. students — summer’s upon us!

But more than be a bright shiny data point, students in the District’s public schools have some pretty cool opportunities to give back to the  school systems.

More than a dozen D.C. Public Schools students are interning in central office this summer (see three of them sitting on HQ’s comfy red waiting-area chairs).

Woodrow Wilson Senior High School senior Aarthi Duleep hopes her internship will “help with college”; others are hoping to glean skills in independence and organization.

Meanwhile, over in the Office of the State Superintendent for Education, the school board is looking for two student reps to serve as liaisons between students and the board.

Applications for the upcoming school year’s spots are due July 29, and are open to D.C. residents who are juniors or seniors in a D.C. high school or a freshman, sophomore, or junior at a local college or university.
