FEC commissioner: ‘I will not be silenced’ on Trump’s voter fraud claims

A Federal Election Commission official said she “will not be silenced” and has again called for President Trump to show evidence of voter fraud.

In a statement, commissioner Ellen Weintraub asked the president to show evidence of an “alleged massive conspiracy to bus thousands of voters from one state to another to cast illegal votes in the 2016 elections.”

Earlier this month, Trump repeated a claim of voter fraud in New Hampshire that he alleges cost both him and former Sen. Kelly Ayotte a win in the state.

No evidence of such fraud has been presented, and former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski said in an interview with CNN on Monday the claims are not true.

Weintraub, a Democrat nominated to the commission by President George W. Bush, took to Twitter earlier in the month asking for evidence of these claims.

In response to Weintraub’s calls for evidence of voter fraud, Cause of Action, a Koch-funded organization, issued a statement Tuesday calling for Weintraub to be investigated for ethics violations.

Weintraub, in her most recent statement, maintained her calls for an investigation are within her duties as a federal election official.
