Security footage captured the moment a firetruck happened to drive by a collapsing building that barely missed two passersby in Washington, D.C.
The building, which was undergoing renovations and surrounded by a safety fence, suddenly fell apart Wednesday afternoon. Video shows two women, one pushing a walker, crossing by the building. When they get about halfway across the street, the structure suddenly starts to crumble, with the facade careening into the road.
The collapse injured one person, who was hit by a piece of debris, according to WUSA 9. By chance, a firetruck returning from another call was a block away and pulled up just seconds after the implosion. First responders took the injured person to the hospital and began searching for others who might have been hurt.
K-9 units scoured the destruction but did not find evidence that anyone else was buried under the wreckage. The collapse did not damage any other nearby structures.
