OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (AP) — Summer might be drawing to a close, but it’s finally possible to buy a sweet treat from an ice cream truck in Ocean Springs.

It took research by two city department heads to compile an ordinance that won approval from city leaders, The Sun Herald reported (http://bit.ly/1ukGFcf ).

Ocean Springs now allows ice cream trucks, and Mrs. T’s Tasty Treats has the first license.

The city announced Tuesday that permit applications for mobile ice cream vendors are available online or at the Building Department office. In-town vendors pay $50 for the permit fee, and out-of-towners pay $250, under the ordinance that aldermen approved Aug. 19.

Mayor Connie Moran said ice cream trucks can sit no more than 10 minutes while serving in one location, and the city specifies that music can be heard no more than 150 feet from the truck.

“This should take care of all those rogue ice cream truck drivers,” Alderman Matt McDonnell said. “I’m glad we have resolved this sticky situation.”
