Services finalized for DeMatha graduate and Navy SEAL

The funeral services for Brendan Looney, a local athlete who led Navy to the 2004 NCAA lacrosse title game, are scheduled to be held Monday.

Looney, who was killed last week in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan, will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery on Monday, Oct. 4. The funeral service will be beforehand at 9:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church (12319 New Hampshire Ave.) in the White Oak area of Silver Spring.

Looney will be buried at Arlington next to his Naval Academy roommate, Lt. Travis Manion, USMC, who was killed in the line of duty in 2007.

A public visitation will be held Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at DeMatha Catholic High School (4313 Madison Ave.) in Hyattsville.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Brendan’s name to either the Travis Manion Foundation or to DeMatha Catholic High School.
