Police find stolen fuel truck
D.C. police recovered a stolen fuel truck in a Northeast Washington neighborhood late Tuesday. Police said the thieves made off with at least 2,800 gallons of fuel that had been in the truck when it was stolen from a commercial fueling station in Lancaster, Pa. Former deacon arrested on more sex-abuse charges
Former Catholic Church deacon Dan Paul Stallings, 71, of Silver Spring, was arrested Tuesday for the second time in less than two months on sexual abuse charges, Montgomery County police said. The latest charges come from a female victim who said Stallings molested her in 1998 when she was 15 or 16 years old and the two left an organized church event together.
The woman stepped forward after Stalling’s arrest on charges of numerous sexual offenses dating back to the 1960s and ’70s was made public in December. Falls Church fire victim dies
Mark Christopher Williams, 39, died Sunday from injuries he received from a three-alarm fire at a Falls Church apartment complex, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department officials said Wednesday. Six people were injured Saturday after a gas explosion on the second floor of the Cavalier Club Apartments in Falls Church. Williamswas taken by medevac to the Washington Burn Center with life-threatening injuries.
Fire investigators say the fire was intentionally set but is still under investigation. – Stephen Hicks.
Maryland legislators debate noose-hanging measure
Maryland lawmakers are debating a proposal to make publicly hanging a noose a hate crime. While some worry adding nooses to hate crimes would violate free-speech rights, supporters argue it’s necessary in the wake of incidents in Maryland that have made nooses the latest tactic in racial discrimination. In September, a noose was hanging on the University of Maryland College Park campus, and a noose with a threatening note was left in a Baltimore City firehouse in November. – Freeman Klopott
