Fox News host Martha MacCallum said the network asked Sen. Rand Paul not to name alleged whistleblower Eric Ciaramella while on the air.
“I would point out that we have the same rule here and asked him not to reveal the name on this program tonight,” the host said after interviewing the Kentucky Republican. “He respected that, which we are glad about.”
The network instituted a rule last fall of not using Ciaramella’s name on the air. Fox News contributor Mollie Hemingway did name him, but she was later chastised by one of the network’s hosts.
Paul, 57, attempted to have a question with Ciaramella’s name in it read on the Senate floor Wednesday. Chief Justice John Roberts declined to read it during Trump’s impeachment trial. The Republican senator later read his question to reporters.
