DCCC outraises NRCC in July but still trails in cash on hand

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee raised $11.3 million in July, beating counterpart National Republican Congressional Committee’s $7 million, even as the Democratic Party’s House majority appears headed for a fall in the 2022 midterm elections.

The DCCC’s haul included $6.2 million from grassroots donors who give in small amounts, suggesting the party’s activist base has not given up on defending a thin, five-seat majority that looks increasingly in peril. The House Democratic campaign arm is reporting $49.3 million in cash on hand in its July filing with the Federal Election Commission, more than $20 million above what it had in its war chest at this point in 2019.

“Our grassroots support continues to make clear that our Democratic coalition will be relentless when it comes to protecting the most diverse Democratic House Majority in history,” Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney of New York, the DCCC chairman, said in a statement.

Despite being outraised by the DCCC in July, the NRCC is still topping this cycle in the money chase. The House GOP campaign arm entered August with $56.8 million to spend on the 2022 campaign, outpacing the DCCC’s $49.3 million. The $56.8 million figure was more than double the cash on hand the NRCC had accumulated at this point two years ago, on its way to a pickup of 14 Democratic-held seats.

And although the NRCC’s $7 million in July fell short of the DCCC, it was still a record off-year July for the GOP committee.
