Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta on Wednesday refused to answer questions about how Clinton is responding to her husband’s claim that Obamacare is “the craziest thing in the world.”
“I was in Richmond,” said Podesta on MSNBC. “You know, you’ll have to ask somebody else that question.”
The former president argued Monday that the Affordable Care Act has resulted in more coverage for the uninsured, but much higher costs that are making it impossible for small business owners to get themselves covered. He backtracked the comments slightly on Tuesday at a campaign stop in Ohio by claiming Obamacare has done “a world of good,” but is still a work in progress.
Podesta repeated the former president’s modified approach, by saying that “if you look at the context of what he actually said, he was saying that the Affordable Care Act had done a lot of good things… there are still some problems that we need to solve and he was talking specifically about something Hillary has talked about on the road which is make sure that we make insurance affordable and limit out of pocket costs.”
But he still dodged questions about whether Hillary agrees with her husband that the situation under Obamacare is the “craziest thing in the world.”
“She thinks it’s been a success,” said Podesta in response. “We need to continue it. We need to build on it. I think that’s president Clinton’s position as well. That’s what he really believes, his colorful language notwithstanding.”
