Acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney claimed that President Trump selected one of his own properties to hold next year’s G-7 summit because he still has the mindset of someone who is in the “hospitality business.”
Mulvaney announced that the summit would be at Trump National Doral Miami, but the the president scrapped that idea late Saturday night. Some argued that if the administration went through with this plan, it would be in violation of the Emolument’s Clause of the constitution.
“I honestly think that what you saw in that tweet was real,” he said during an interview on Fox News Sunday. “The president isn’t one for holding back his feelings and emotions about something. He was honestly surprised at the level of pushback.”
“At the end of the day he still considers himself to be in the hospitality business, and he had an opportunity to take the biggest leaders from around the world and he wanted to put on the absolute best show, best visit, that he possibly could, and he was very comfortable doing that at Doral.”
The administration is looking for a new venue while the president publicly suggesting that it could be at Camp David.
