Liberal talk show host Bill Maher is ready for the pandemic to end, and he said that Dr. Anthony Fauci “doesn’t know a lot about anything.”
As Maher prepared for his 20th season of Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO, a show that tackles present-day issues with a comedic spin, he said he now pokes fun at both Republicans and Democrats.
“Before what I was doing was, almost always, making fun only of the conservatives,” Maher said in an interview with Deadline. “Now, I have to, if I’m an honest broker, if I’m going to just call things as I see them, I’m doing it for both sides.”
When asked about putting the pandemic in perspective and the medical research that has been done to date, Maher said he was “over COVID” and suggested a humble perspective.
“In general, we still don’t understand too much about how the human body works,” Maher said. “Do you really think in 50 years people will look back and say, ‘Oh, yeah, we had it all figured out in 2022?’ No, they will be appalled at things we’re doing right now.”
Maher added that he has no intention of getting a COVID-19 booster shot.
“They just prevent you from dying, which is a great part of it, let’s not undercount that,” Maher said. “But if they don’t prevent you from transmitting it, and they don’t prevent you from getting it, why are we still treating this disease the way we always have? And what the f*** is the use of a booster shot? Because I will never get a booster shot.”
Maher noted recent reports indicating doctors and scientists suggesting that the vaccines might cause a reverse effect that is being called immune system fatigue.

“Well, I don’t want that, do you?” Maher asked the rhetorical question. “So, now you’re not protected by the vaccine or your immune system? I don’t think so.”
The host stated he did get his first vaccine but supports those who have not.
“It’s not only useless, but this is a very, very new vaccine,” Maher noted. “OK, I didn’t want the first vaccine. We should not treat people unfairly who want to allow their own immune system to take care of the situation. But OK, I took one for the team.”

Maher said the country is not in a great place, and while it sometimes can be scary and depressing, it certainly is not uninteresting.
