Obama invites World Series champion Chicago Cubs to the White House

President Obama early Thursday morning invited the World Series champions Chicago Cubs to the White House before he leaves office next year.

After the Cubs won their first World Series in 108 years by beating Cleveland in Game 7 by a score of 8-7, the president extended an invitation on Twitter.

“It happened: @Cubs win World Series. That’s change even this South Sider can believe in,” Obama tweeted. “Want to come to the White House before I leave?”

Obama is a fan of the Cubs’ crosstown rival White Sox, a team whose small fan base largely exists on the South Side of Chicago.

The former Illinois senator previously hosted the Chicago Blackhawks at the White House following their three championships during Obama’s tenure as president. He has also hosted the 1985 Super Bowl champion Chicago Bears team, which did not previously get the opportunity to visit the White House reportedly because of the Space Shuttle Challenger explosion.
