Report: Warren expected to endorse Clinton tonight

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren is expected to endorse presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton Thursday evening, sources close to the progressive icon told CNN.

Warren, who has at times been critical of Clinton, could help rally supporters of Bernie Sanders behind the former secretary of state so that Democrats can focus on pursuing a unified battle against Donald Trump.

President Obama offered Clinton his own support on Thursday, hours after he met with Sanders at the White House at the Vermont senator’s request. “I’m with her, and I am fired up,” he said.

Warren, who has long been the subject of vice presidential speculation, has declined to rule the possibility out. Recently, the Massachusetts senator has leveled sharp attacks against Trump, calling him an “insecure money-grubber” who doesn’t care if people get hurt “so long as he makes a profit.”

CNN’s Jim Sciutto claimed Thursday afternoon that Warren will endorse Clinton in a video message, hours after Reuters reported an endorsement would likely come “within a week or two.”

A spokesperson for Warren did not return the Washington Examiner‘s request for comment.
