Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen became the latest foreign leader on Thursday to meet with President Trump at the White House, following the president’s recent sit-down’s British leader Theresa May and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
“I think that President Trump and my prime minister will have a good meeting today and they will also have open and frank discussions on where we differ in perspectives,” Denmark’s foreign minister told CNBC ahead of the meeting.
Trump called Denmark a “very good ally” during his meeting with Rasmussen in the Oval Office and said he hoped to have a “fruitful” conversation with his foreign counterpart.
“We have a truly great relationship and we are working together on many fronts,” Trump added.
However, Rasmussen has been critical of Trump’s repeated attempts to temporarily suspend immigration from Muslim-majority countries that the administration considers “high-risk.”
The Danish leader endorsed comments made by his foreign minister in late January in which he called the president’s travel ban “not fair” and encouraged Trump to “meet every man [and] woman as an individual.”
