Florida Sen. Marco Rubio defended his youth in Saturday’s Republican debate by saying Vice President Joe Biden is a perfect example of why voting for the most experienced person isn’t always a good idea.
“I will say, if politics becomes, or the presidency becomes about electing people who have been in Congress or the Senate the longest, we should all rally around Joe Biden,” Rubio said during the debate hosted in New Hampshire by ABC News.
“He’s been around a thousand years, he’s passed hundreds of bills,” he added. “I don’t think any of us believe he should be president of the United States.”
Rubio made the statement in response to a question about what legislative accomplishments he had that qualified him to be president. He said those ranged from “protecting the people of Florida from eminent domain abuse to bringing accountability” to the Department of Veterans Affairs. He also said he was proud of his service both in the U.S. Senate and as speaker of the Florida House.
