Former FBI Director James Comey is nostalgic for former President Barack Obama’s days in the White House.
In an interview with Der Spiegel published Friday, Comey said he misses the Democratic president.
“Do you sometimes miss Barack Obama?” the German news outlet asked Comey.
“Yes. Yeah. Yep,” he responded.
Comey has been in a war of words with President Trump as he embarks on his weeks-long media tour to promote his book, A Higher Loyalty.
He said he didn’t support Obama as a candidate, but he grew to respect the commander in chief. Obama appointed Comey to FBI director in 2013. He was fired by Trump last year.
“I was not a supporter of his, I gave money to his opponents. But I came to respect him. He’s not a perfect person, but he was someone who cared deeply about those institutional values,” Comey explained.
In his book, Comey writes that Obama “jeopardized” the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server by seeming to absolve the former secretary of state of any crime before the FBI had completed its investigation.
