PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — A roadside bombing in northwestern Pakistan near the Afghan border killed nine paramilitary troops on Thursday while another soldier died in an attack further south, the army said. The Pakistani military, meanwhile, test-fired a ballistic missile it said could carry a nuclear warhead, an exercise meant to showcase the nuclear-armed nation’s capabilities.

Pakistan is under mounting pressure to fight militants in the volatile North Waziristan region along the boundary with Afghanistan ahead of the withdrawal of U.S.-led international troops from the neighboring country by the end of the year.
