Man stabbed to death in Columbia

A man was fatally stabbed in Columbia on Tuesday, the second homicide in the city in less than 24 hours.

Authorities found 46-year-old Phillip E. Wise suffering stab wounds in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 5500 block of Harper’s Farm Road at about 4:30 p.m., Howard County police said.

Police were alerted to the slaying after a man heard his car alarm activated and called authorities after seeing Wise near the vehicle. Police believe Wise may have collapsed against the car, setting off the alarm.

A $5,000 reward is being offered for information about the stabbing death. Anyone with information can call 410-313-STOP (7867).

Wise’s killing comes a day after 42-year-old Nichole McNair was fatally shot in Columbia on Monday evening.

The two deaths bring Howard County’s homicide total for 2011 to four, according to the Baltimore Sun. The county recorded four slayings in all of 2010.
