A surge in gun violence in Chicago continued this past weekend.
As of Monday morning, four people had been killed and dozens more wounded during a bloody, violent weekend.
According to the Chicago Tribune, during a 14-hour stretch from Saturday afternoon into early Sunday, one person was shot in the city every 33 minutes.
Chicago police told WLS-TV the weekend toll hit at least 35 wounded.
A 7-year-old girl was shot in the forearm as she attended a vigil for a 14-year-old boy who was fatally shot nearby earlier that day. She became the 27th child younger than 13 years old shot in Chicago so far this year, WLS-TV reported.
Of all major United States cities, Chicago has seen the largest increase in homicides in 2016. The city is on pace to surpass its 2015 total of homicides by the end of this year, which would be more than 600 murders.
There have also been more than 2,000 shooting incidents in Chicago so far this year, a 48 percent increase over the same period last year.
