Trump arrives in Singapore ahead of summit with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un

SINGAPORE — President Trump has arrived here for his summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, following a nearly 20-hour trip from the G-7 summit in Canada.

Air Force One touched down at Singapore’s Paya Lebar military base at 8:30 p.m. local time Sunday evening, hours after Kim wrapped up a bilateral meeting with the Singaporean prime minister. Trump will not see his North Korean counterpart until they meet face-to-face Tuesday morning.

The president was greeted by members of Singapore’s government prior to departing for the Shangri-La Hotel, where he will stay for the duration of his visit. Several U.S. officials have been stationed at the hotel since last week, when preparations began for the historic meeting between Trump and Kim.

White House chief of staff John Kelly deplaned several minutes later, as military officials posed for photographs in front of Air Force One.

Trump will spend Monday at the Istana, a palace that houses the office of Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. North Korea has not yet announced Kim’s plans ahead of the summit on Tuesday.
