President Trump highlighted his absence from the White House Correspondents’ dinner during a speech in Pennsylvania on Saturday commemorating his first 100 days.
“There is another big gathering taking place tonight in Washington, D.C. Did you hear about it?” Trump quipped. “A large group of Hollywood actors and Washington media are consoling each other in a hotel ballroom in our nation’s capital right now.”

A Washington tradition, the annual dinner is an opportunity for media and politicians to rub shoulders and trade light hearted jabs. Trump chose to skip the event this year, explaining to his supporters that he couldn’t “possibly be more thrilled to be more than 100 miles away from the Washington swamp.”
Showing their appreciation, the crowd erupted in cheers of “USA.”
After slamming “CNN and MSNBC as very fake news,” the president suggested he might make it for dinner in the future. “Maybe we’ll make it more exciting for them in Washington and show up next year,” the president suggested. “But we have good chance of showing up here again next year too.”
