Krauthammer: Trump ‘seems to have a belief in conspiracy theories’

Conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer on Thursday said President Trump’s claim that the Obama administration wiretapped his campaign headquarters indicates Trump’s affinity for conspiracy theories.

“There’s not a person in Washington who thinks there actually was a wiretapping. The president – look, he seems to have a belief in conspiracy theories,” Krauthammer told Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

“This is after all a man who said that Ted Cruz’s father was involved in some way with Lee Harvey Oswald. That’s pretty Twilight Zone stuff,” Krauthammer added. “So this is a lot less cooky than that, but there is no evidence.”

Krauthammer said Trump’s claim on Twitter nearly two weeks ago “makes you question the credibility of the president on anything.” Trump’s best bet moving forward, according to the pundit, is to stop pushing the claim.

Earlier Thursday, the heads of the House and Senate intelligence committees announced they have not found any evidence that former President Barack Obama spied on Trump’s campaign last fall.
