Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin was released from the hospital in Cincinnati on Monday and has returned to Buffalo, New York, doctors announced.
Hamlin, 24, shocked the sports world when he collapsed from cardiac arrest during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals last week, but he has made remarkable progress since. He is expected to continue receiving medical treatment in Buffalo, according to his doctors.

Hamlin collapsed on the field after tackling a Bengals player on Jan. 2. He stood up after the tackle and collapsed, prompting officials to halt the game before ending it. Officials on the field restarted his heart and brought him to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he was said to be in critical condition initially.
Dr. William A. Knight insisted it is too early to discuss the safety’s future in football.
“He is doing well, and this is the beginning of the next stage of his recovery,” Knight explained, per CNN. “It is entirely too premature to discuss, not only his football — it’s that we’re really focused on his day-to-day recovery.”
Eventually, he began to regain functionality, communicating with friends and family by writing. One of his first questions was who won the game.
“When he asked, ‘Did we win?’ the answer is, ‘Yes, you know, Damar, you won. You’ve won the game of life,’” Dr. Timothy Pritts recalled during a press conference on Thursday.

Hamlin later opined on the Bills’ game against the Patriots on Sunday, when his team won 35 to 23. The exact cause of his cardiac event is still unclear. Health officials have expressed their intent to continue running tests on him as he recovers.
