Police say Austin bombing suspect left 25-minute confessional video

The suspect tied to the recent string of deadly bombings in Austin, Texas, left a 25-minute video describing the explosives he made shortly before taking his own life, according to police.

“It is the outcry of a very challenged young man talking about challenges in his life that led him to this point,” interim Austin Police Chief Brian Manley said of 23-year-old Mark Anthony Conditt during a press conference Wednesday. “I know everybody is interested in a motive and understanding why. And we’re never going to be able to put a [rationale] behind these acts,” he added.

Manley said the video, which he said was a “confession,” doesn’t explain why the suspect targeted his victims and makes no mention of any terror or hate groups.

The video was found on a phone in Conditt’s possession. He took his own life as police closed in on him after he planted a series of package bombs that claimed two lives and wounded five people around the Texas capital this month.
