Meryl Streep: Clinton will be first female president, not the last

At the Democratic National Convention Tuesday, Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep predicted there will be more than one woman in the Oval Office.

“She’ll be the first, but she won’t be the last,” said Streep of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, to cheers from the crowd.

Commending the delegates for making history by naming the first female nominee of a major political party, Streep said Clinton comes from a long line of trailblazing American women who have overcome long odds with tenacity.

“What does it take to be the first female anything? It takes grit and it takes grace,” said Streep, who argued that the candidate has developed a tough skin after years in the public eye.
