VIDEO: Sloan Gibson’s six ways to fix Veterans Affairs

After months of scandal and the resignation of former Secretary Eric Shinseki, Acting Secretary of Veterans Affairs Sloan Gibson has a six-part plan to restore trust in the department. He testified before the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee Thursday.

Meanwhile, President Obama‘s pick to become the new VA secretary — former Proctor & Gamble CEO Robert McDonald — cleared his first hurdle toward confirmation Wednesday. The Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs unanimously approved McDonald’s nomination.

House and Senate lawmakers are also busy working on legislation to overhaul the VA, which is expected to be completed before Congress adjourns for its August recess.
