Cruz slams Democrats’ ‘expertise in bigotry’ after they announce hearing on Jim Crow laws: ‘Dems wrote Jim Crow’

Cruz was responding to the Judiciary Committee’s announcement of a hearing on the history of Jim Crow laws, which they called “Jim Crow 2021: The Latest Assault on the Right to Vote.”

Democrats have recently decried an election integrity law that they claim will disenfranchise black American voters, with President Joe Biden calling the new law “Jim Crow on steroids.”

After apparently taking criticism for comparing contemporary Democrats to the party’s racist past, Cruz continued with his criticism of the party’s racial rhetoric.

“Lots of Dems triggered by this post,” Cruz said. “Most common, angry response, in effect: ‘the world changed in 1964, and now Dems are righteous on race.”

“This is nonsense, on many levels,” Cruz continued. “(1) GOP, the party of Lincoln, was founded to END slavery. Dems ferociously defended slavery. (2) In 1964, 82% of GOP voted for Civil Rights Act. Only 69% of Dems did & Dems filibustered to try to kill it. (3) It’s not just ancient Dem history (which Lefties angrily insist). The CURRENT Dem governor of VA displayed a Klansman in his yearbook. (4) Dem Robert Byrd, the Senate Majority Leader from 1987-89, was an “Exalted Cyclops” in the KKK. (5) Joe Biden gave a gushing eulogy for Klansman Byrd ELEVEN YEAR AGO.”

“(6) Dems today ferociously oppose school choice — the most important civil rights issue in America. (7) Dems today routinely try the divide & inflame racial tensions (see, eg, Maxine Waters urging riots; Biden “they’re going to put you back in chains.”) (8) Just last month, EVERY SINGLE DEMOCRAT voted for a new program that explicitly discriminates based on race, forgiving Ag loans for farmers only in specified races. This is wrong & only divides us further. (9) Two months ago, Biden admin dismissed the prosecution of Yale for explicitly discriminating against Asian Americans. When it suits their political advantage, TODAY’s Dems enthusiastically support racial discrimination.”

Cruz has been a fierce defender of Georgia’s new election law, recently threatening to strip Major League Baseball of its antitrust protections over its decision to boycott the state after the legislation became law.

“If they’re gonna play partisan enforcer, they shouldn’t expect to see special goodies from Washington when they are dishonestly acting to favor one party against the other,” Cruz said.

Cruz also argued that the league was the only major sports league to receive such special treatment.

“Major League Baseball has had an exemption from the anti-trust laws for nearly 100 years,” Cruz said. “It was made up by the U.S. Supreme Court.”

“The NFL doesn’t have that exception. The NBA doesn’t have that exception,” Cruz continued. “Somehow those sports leagues manage to do just fine, but baseball gets this very special carve-out of corporate welfare from Washington. They don’t have to play by the same rules everybody else does.”
