A leading liberal group says a federal appeals court’s Thursday ruling maintaining the block of President Trump’s immigration ban puts the spotlight on Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch.
“All eyes are now on the Supreme Court, not just because this case could well be headed there — but also because we have a nominee about to be considered for a seat on the court,” said Nan Aron, Alliance for Justice president. “And it’s more important than ever that the nominee, Neil Gorsuch, answer all questions about whether he can be an independent check on an executive whose disregard for the law has put his administration in crisis-a-day mode.”
Trump is poised to take the case to the Supreme Court and tweeted after the ruling, “SEE YOU IN COURT, THE SECURITY OF OUR NATION IS AT STAKE!”
The legality of Trump’s immigration ban and the ongoing court proceedings are likely to become a central theme of Gorsuch’s upcoming confirmation proceedings to the high court.
