Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci argued Tuesday that President Trump’s biggest gaffe in the White House was his decision to make former Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus his chief of staff.
“The biggest mistake that the president made in his presidency was his first hire,” Scaramucci told CNN. “When he hired Reince Priebus, who didn’t really like him, who tried to stop him from getting the nomination … he flooded the zone with [Republican National Committee] staffers.”
“He flooded the zone with establishment people that didn’t want the president’s disruptive, insurgent personality to do anything to disrupt what was going on inside of Washington,” Scaramucci added.
Scaramucci was hired as White House communications director in 2017 in an effort to oust Priebus from his role as chief of staff. After Priebus was let go, Trump’s next chief of staff John Kelly fired Scaramucci after less than two weeks on the job over a vulgarity-laced interview with the New Yorker.
Scaramucci has accused Priebus of being disloyal to the president, alleging him of leaking negative details about the president and other White House staffers to the press.
