Astroworld Festival mourns eight dead at Houston concert

Rapper Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival mourned the eight people who died following cardiac arrests at Friday night’s concert and pledged to cooperate with investigators.

The concert, which canceled Saturday night’s planned festivities, said it was working with officials “however we can” as they investigate the series of cardiac arrests that resulted in eight deaths and several hospitalizations.

“Our hearts are with the Astroworld Festival family tonight — especially those we lost and their loved ones,” the festival wrote Saturday morning.

EIGHT CONFIRMED DEAD AT TRAVIS SCOTT CONCERT IN HOUSTON

The Houston Police Department announced it was setting up a command post for information on missing persons early Saturday morning, roughly five hours after the festival’s crowd “began to compress toward the front of the stage and that caused panic and people were getting injured,” according to Houston Fire Chief Sam Pena.

Seventeen people were transported to hospitals, 11 of whom were experiencing cardiac arrest, Pena said. Authorities transported 23 people throughout the day, including before the “mass casualty incident,” for “various medical issues,” and more than 300 patients were seen at the on-site field hospital throughout the day, he added.

Officials won’t know the cause of death for the people who have been “confirmed” dead until the medical examiner has completed an investigation, Pena said. The identities of the dead concertgoers have not been released.

Roughly 50,000 people attended Friday’s festival at NRG Park.
