Metro to close two stations on Orange/Blue lines

Metro riders planning to take Metrorail between the District and Virginia for Valentine’s Day dates or holiday shopping should expect major delays next weekend.

The transit agency is shutting down train service at the Rosslyn and Arlington Cemetery stations on the Orange and Blue lines for the three-day Presidents’ Day weekend, creating two legs on each line.

Metro will run free shuttle buses to connect the lines, but riders should expect 40-minute delays.

Riders will be able to use the Yellow Line to get to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and other points between Virginia and the District.

Crews are slated to install two new rail switches at Rosslyn, and replace several hundred feet of rail, hundreds of track fasteners, anchor blots and tunnel lights. They also plan to repair 30 water leaks.

Metro also is using the closures to conduct an emergency drill Feb. 13. Law enforcement agencies will simulate an explosion on a train in the underwater tunnel between the Rosslyn and Foggy Bottom-GWU stations.
