Former President Donald Trump endorsed Susan Wright, the late wife of GOP Rep. Ron Wright, to replace him in serving Texas’s Republican-leaning 6th Congressional District.
Susan Wright, a member of the State Republican Executive Committee, is one of 11 Republicans running in the Saturday special election to replace the late congressman, who died at the age of 67 in February after battling cancer and COVID-19 complications.
“Susan Wright will be a terrific Congresswoman (TX-06) for the Great State of Texas. She is the wife of the late Congressman Ron Wright, who has always been supportive of our America First Policies,” Trump said in a statement, according to the Dallas Morning News.
Susan Wright advocated for the expansion of gun rights, fighting for increased border security, and reducing the size of the federal government, according to her website. The candidate said she was “honored” to receive Trump’s highly coveted endorsement.
“I’m so proud to be the only candidate in this race President Trump trusts to be his ally in our fight to Make America Great Again,” she said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to going to D.C. as the Congresswoman from the Sixth District of Texas to represent the America First agenda that President Trump successfully championed every day: securing the border, defending the Second Amendment, and protecting life.”
Susan Wright has also been endorsed by Republican Reps. Chip Roy of Texas, Elise Stefanik of New York, and Andy Biggs of Arizona.

In addition to the crowded field of Republicans, 10 Democrats, one Libertarian, and one independent announced their candidacy ahead of the Saturday special election.
Texas’s 6th District, which houses a large portion of the area southwest of Dallas, has been a seat held by a Republican for decades. Ron Wright’s predecessor, former GOP Rep. Joe Barton, represented the district from 1985 to 2019.
