Rep. Steny Hoyer, D-Md., explained Wednesday that part of the reason that Hillary Clinton is doing so poorly in the polls is because voters aren’t paying attention to all of her strengths as a candidate.
“Well, the biggest concern is, I think, the American public are not paying attention to the details, the specifics, her experience,” the Maryland lawmaker said in an interview with MSNBC’s Kate Snow.
Snow asked Hoyer to respond specifically to what he thinks is Clinton’s biggest obstacle following the release of a new poll showing voters are still uncertain about the Democratic nominee.
“This is our new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll just out today. Voters were asked which of these four statements reflected their biggest concern about Hillary Clinton,” the cable news anchor said.
“Thirty-six percent said their biggest concern was her judgment on Iraq and Syria and Libya, 29 percent said use of her private email server was their biggest concern, nine percent said the ‘deplorables’ comment that she made was the biggest concern, and eight percent said recent health issues,” Snow said. “What is your biggest concern about your candidate, Hillary Clinton?”
Hoyer maintained people aren’t paying close attention, and he added that GOP nominee Donald Trump’s frequent criticism of Clinton is “dead wrong.”
“I think she’s going to win this election,” Hoyer said. “Other polls recently, as you know, have shown her to be leading by three to seven points. I think those are pretty accurate.”
Clinton currently leads Trump by 2 points, according to a RealClearPolitics polling average.
